March's Wednesday after school mountain bike rides for 2nd through 5th graders in Ross Valley
We’re offering another month of after school rides on Wednesdays this March. We offer a pick up at Wade Thomas and a second pick up in front of Manor. We’d love to have your 2nd through 5th grade mountain bikers join us for some fun on the bikes.
These rides will are designed for beginner to intermediate lower school mountain bikers. Our goal will be to keep our rides engaging for the whole group without overwhelming our less experienced riders. Our focus will be enjoying the outdoors and building a foundation of good bicycle handling skills.
Before our rides, please go over your rider’s bike and address any mechanical issues that may cause problems on the trail. Also, please help your student pack all of their cycling gear including their helmet, bike gloves, lots of food, and plenty of water. Light weight knee pads, elbow pads and protective eyewear are, also, recommended. For riders who are allergic to poison oak, a single use packet (or reusable small container) of Tecnu is another great thing to pack.
Even on days when it is not raining, our riders may get wet and cold this month. Please keep an eye on the weather forecast and make sure that your rider has warm clothing that is appropriate for mountain biking. Generally, wind or waterproof clothing that is not too bulky stays warm when it gets wet is best. Because cotton holds moisture, cotton clothing tends to get heavy and cold when riding in the winter.
We ask any participant who has recently tested positive for Covid-19, having recently taken fever reducing medication or reporting symptoms that could come from Covid-19, to please follow our state Covid guidelines in planning their return to our group.
All parents of participating minors need to go to the parent portion of the CDC website and familiarize themselves with the available CDC concussion information. Concussions can and do happen during mountain biking. Sometimes symptoms will take hours or days to become apparent. It is important that we are all prepared. https://www.cdc.gov/headsup/pdfs/youthsports/parents_eng.pdf
