October's Friday after school mountain bike rides for 2nd through 5th graders
With mild fall days and falling leaves, we're excited to offer Friday after school rides this month for intermediate to adavanced 2nd through 5th grade boys and girls. Our rides this month will be designed to be engaging for the whole group without overwhelming our less experienced riders. We'll be focusing on building up our on the bike handling skills, working toward being able to tackle sustained uphills and riding cooperatively in a group.
Before our rides, please go over your rider’s bike and address any mechanical issues that may cause problems on the trail. Also, please help your student pack all of their cycling gear including their helmet, bike gloves, lots of food, and plenty of water. Light weight knee pads, elbow pads and protective eyewear are, also, recommended. For riders who are allergic to poison oak, a single use packet (or reusable small container) of Tecnu is another great thing to pack.
We ask any participant who has recently tested positive for Covid-19, having recently taken fever reducing medication or reporting symptoms that could come from Covid-19, to please follow our state Covid guidelines in planning their return to our group.
All parents of participating minors need to go to the parent portion of the CDC website and familiarize themselves with the available CDC concussion information. Concussions can and do happen during mountain biking. Sometimes symptoms will take hours or days to become apparent. It is important that we are all prepared. https://www.cdc.gov/headsup/pdfs/youthsports/parents_eng.pdf
