Spring 2025 Beginner Tow Rides

$0.00

These weekend rides are for parents and T-K through 5th graders who are ready to start mountain biking together on local trails and fire roads. On these rides, we will be riding in one group with parents available to tow their children up the climbs and support their children through the downhills. Our goal is to get our kids started riding with as much support as possible.

This group is designed for beginner bikers and neither parents nor youngsters are expected to come with expert biking skills. Our rides will take place on green to blue rated terrain and our emphasis will lean heavily on being outside together rather than how far or fast we can ride. Kids and parents will need to come into these rides already comfortable riding their bikes on two wheels and able to effectively use their brakes to control their speed.

Parents and children need to have well tuned mountain bikes with front and rear brakes, gears and knobby tires. Properly fitted and undamaged helmets are required for parents and youngsters. Parents also need to carry spare tubes, snacks, plenty of water and a tow rope for their child (“Towhee” and “Shotgun Tow Ropes” both make good options that are available online and at some local bike shops). Protective eye wear, knee pads and elbow pads are also recommended.

We ask any participant who has recently tested positive for Covid-19, having recently taken fever reducing medication or reporting symptoms that could come from Covid-19, to please follow current state and county guidelines in returning to our group.

All participant parents need to go to the parent portion of the CDC website and familiarize themselves with the available CDC concussion information. Concussions can and do happen during mountain biking. Sometimes symptoms will take hours or days to become apparent. It is important that we are all prepared. https://www.cdc.gov/headsup/pdfs/youthsports/parents_eng.pdf
